Review:
Jiiva’s biggest success in his career was his political thriller Kho (Rangam) that released in 2011. The new film is no way related to the previous. The makers titled it as Rangam to projecting it as sequel to garner some buzz. Rangam 2 is predominently set in a gulf. The plot is pretty decent. Some scenes are well executed. Lackluster narration played spoilsport. First half is slow paced and story starts only from interval. There quite a few interesting twists in second half.
Unnecessary scenes could have been trimmed. Too many logical loopholes in second half. The film keeps switching between emotions hindering the flow, therefore audience doesn’t connect neither of it. Comedy too doesn’t work as much as expected. Jiiva’s troubles in gulf are well portrayed. His intense performance made the film more appealing. Tulasi Nair is okay in her role. Nassar delivers what is expected of him.
Rangam had great music with ‘Enduko Emo’ becoming huge succes. But in this so called ‘sequel’, Harris Jayraj’s music too doesn’t help in anyway. It is loud and disturbing at many places. Songs are forgettable and can be used as washroom break. Cinematography by Manush Nandan is worth a praise. Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran being the director of this film seems to have concentrated on making it a visual treat rather than concentrating on script.
Pros:
Jiiva
Cinematography
Foreign locations
Cons
Lackluster screenplay
Logic less
Music

Bottom-line: Passable action thriller
